The goal of the Jefferson Awards is to recognize and encourage students, parents, staff, and community members who have contributed to their community through their outstanding public and community service.  Sixteen people were given awards at the reception, and eight of them were adults in the SMHS community.

“Most students do service outside school, while the parents and staff  do work for school and within school,” said Sara Catalli, the advisor of  the Jefferson Awards Youth Service Initiative Team/ The recipients of the awards were recognized for various achievements and services, such as Karen Dyckman’s extraordinary fourteen years working in the public school system, and Office Keala Keanaaina’s positive impact on the SMHS campus and community.

“For the people that get it, it’s well deserved recognition,” said Ms. Catalli. “We want to continue to be grateful for all the service they do for us.”
